If you’re a blogger like me, then you know that viral pins are one of the most important free tools out there that drive traffic to your website by using Pinterest.

Pinterest is the number one source for MOST bloggers out there, and that’s why you should invest in it.

As I’ve said before, blogging isn’t all about creating content. You could create the best content out there, but with no promoting and no marketing plan in mind, your website will never be discovered.

And that is why blogging is 20% writing and 80% promoting. It doesn’t matter how much time it takes me to write an article, I’ll double it just to promote my article.

So, when does Pinterest comes into play? Pinterest comes in when it’s time for promoting the content.

Pinterest said to have 291 million monthly active users worldwide, so imagine how many people check it per day! And how many opportunities you’re wasting by the day!

Pinterest offers a free marketing and promoting opportunity for all new and ancient bloggers out there. You can find people with the same mindset as you, and find people who are willing to encourage you and help you out on your journey.

But the thing is, you’ll have to create amazing graphics if you’re looking for traffic. Pinterest is all about graphics, colors and looks. If you want to attract readers and create a follower base, then you’ll have to learn creating viral pins.

When I just started out, I didn’t have any idea on how to create beautiful pins! I didn’t know what was considered beautiful and what was considered dull.

But my reaching and my pin’s reaching surely made me learn. I’ve learned that the more a pin is colorful and attractive, the more clicks it’ll generate.

And since I didn’t know how to use Photoshop and couldn’t afford it at the time, I needed a free tool to create graphics, but that will still make them turn out good. And that’s when I’ve discovered Canva.

Canva is the best tool out there for creating beautiful designs and it’s certainly changed my life for the better. Since I’ve discovered I didn’t stop using it, whether it’s for logos, pins, blog posts pictures or you name it.

It’s easy to use, flexible and comfortable. It’s all about dragging and dropping. There are plenty of designs to choose from, or you can develop your own. I usually put my pins at the end of the blog post just to make sure people see them and pin them. And it works.

Canva made it easier for me to create viral pins in a short amount of time and with no money involved. You don’t need to be a designer or a professional graphic designer to create viral pins, you just need to learn these tips that I’ll share with you throughout this blog post.

Beautiful pins are usually eye-catchy which makes them a great way to bring traffic and raise your blog’s reaching potential. If you invest your time in promoting content on Pinterest and continue to create gorgeous viral pins, your traffic will eventually skyrocket on its own and you won’t have to do as much effort as before.

If you do know, then you can just continue reading. So without any further ado, here are the ABC’s of how to create gorgeous viral pins using only Canva:

Create an account

You might think that you can create designs without creating an account on Canva, but that’s not possible. So make sure you visit their website and register, you can register via gmail, facebook or whatever you wish. It’s very simple and not time-consuming at all. After you sign up then you can log in to your account and that’s when you’ll be able to get started.

Create your first design

The moment you log in, you’ll see firsthand “Create a design” on your homepage. That’s where you’ll be clicking so you can start creating your first design. You’ll find out that Canva gives you the possibility to create viral pins, Facebook posts, Instagram posts and more!

You can create Youtube channel art, Graphics for your book, and you name it. Now at first, it can be a little overwhelming to find out all these features and not knowing how to use them. But as time goes by and you start using the little by little, you’ll eventually find out how.

I personally use Canva for three main things, Facebook posts, Pinterest Graphics and banners for my blog! It makes everything easier. And I’m addicted.

Here’s my Facebook page if you’re wondering what kind of posts I create! 🙂

If you choose one of the designs then it’s a standard one, if you’re looking for more taller pins or wider ones then you can just change the dimensions and that’s about it.

Drag some elements or designs to create your pin

After you click on Pinterest images, then you’ll be redirected to a page where you’ll find out a blank design.

Now, on your left there’s the design menu. It has models, elements, texts and much more. Each one has its purpose; you can choose a design from the ones on the list or you can start from scratch by dragging elements and choosing the background color etc.

I prefer choosing a design then customizing it the way I like so I can make fun designs and colorful ones. You can be creative as much as you like, drag elements, photos, texts or you name it until you find out the design you like.

And one thing you should keep in mind is that your design should reflect your brand and website. If your website has some certain distinctive colors then you should use them in your pin.

You can find royalty photos on the internet and then use them by uploading them and dragging them into your design. That’s what I usually do as it makes the pin much more attractive and gorgeous.

If you choose the correct background, then it’s time for the text. Now whoever says text says font. So you’ve got to choose the right font that will go well with your design and background.

If you do, then here are the elements you should mention with your text:

  • A title that is eye-catchy, short and easy to read
  • A call to action to encourage clicks
  • Your website to promote your blog

Now, the title should reflect what your blog post, youtube video or freebie is about. It should be short and fun. Not too much information but just enough to raise people’s curiosity.

A call to action is also important because they make the reader more enthusiastic and more willing to do what you say. A call to action is either how your freebie looks like, calendar. video or blog post so people can click more and be interested.

“Grab your own freebie, there’s only a limited number” This entices your reader and will drive them to click on your pin and give their email addresses for a freebie. The fact that there is only a limited number makes the freebie more valuable and thus more wanted.

Use colors, shapes and font to create viral pins

What I really love about pins is that if you use the right colors, your pin would look extraordinary. If you use different colors, fonts and shapes in one pin it’ll look sophisticated and very attractive.

If you use the same theme and same layout for all your pins then you’re creating authority and a brand in Pinterest. This way every time your pin appears on somebody’s newsfeed, they’ll automatically link it back to you.

And now, once you’re done creating your beautiful pin, all you’ve got to do now is name it and download it to your laptop so you can upload it on Pinterest. And voilà.
