I know what you’re thinking.
How can all these other freelancers land high-paying jobs while I don’t?
And you’re pretty sure you do your job so perfectly that it leaves all your clients in awe. But even though you do this, you just can’t seem to get paid very well.
Just by scrolling on Facebook you find all these high-paying freelancers living their life.
While you spend more the time they do working, to only get half of their payment or even less.
I know the struggle. When I first started freelancing, I got paid 12$ for 3 days straight of working.
That’s basically slavery.
But you know, even though I didn’t get paid very well at first I didn’t lose hope. And that is why today, I get a full-month income by freelancing at home.
I don’t work outside; I don’t have any other jobs. In fact, I’m a full-time student, so I only freelance 4 hours per day or less.
Yet, I get paid very well. Just months ago I said I started getting paid 0.01$ per word. Well, now it’s 0.05$ per word and sometimes even more.
For a simple piece of 500 words, I can land an income of 2 days working. And I only started freelancing 8 months ago. So that’s perfect for me.
I’m still striving for more and I will get paid more. I’ll just have to keep working, like you should, to land these high-paying jobs.
So without any further due, here are my tips to land high-paying writing jobs but they’re suitable for any type of freelancers:
- Cold pitching
- Your writer website
- Social media platforms
And yes, that is right. If you want high-paying jobs then guest-posting will be of great help. Why is that?
Simply because of the exposure you’ll get. Guest posting is very effective when you’re looking for great clients.
I know that there are a lot of you out there who don’t like giving content for free.
And while I agree, guest posting will help you so much even if it’s for free. It will be a win-win situation for both you and the blog owner.
You’ll benefit from the high-exposure you’ll get by guest blogging on popular websites.
In these websites, you’ll find a lot of potential clients scrolling that can end up on your article. If the article is of great quality then they’ll like it and it will raise your chances of being hired.
It’s a simple math equation.
Not only will it help you land jobs, but it’ll also help you with these:
- Develop your writing skills
- Grow your network
- Meet fellow writers
- Proof of your expertise
- Grow your portfolio
- Gain backlinks
Not everything in life revolves about money or is of monetary goal.
So if you’re willing to sacrifice one article for a website you’ll benefit from all these other things that priceless.
There are, of course, a lot of websites out there that will pay you to write for them.
But they might not be one niche-concentrated and they may have a lot of proposals so you’ll have to keep waiting for your turn for a long time.
If you’re not familiar with cold pitching then oh boy, you’ve wasted so many good chances to land high-paying jobs.
But hey, better late than never!
Cold pitching is researching enterprises that offer the same jobs like the one you’re doing and sending them emails even if there is no job posting.
Why is this a winning strategy?
Simply because cold pitching gives you exposure to these enterprises and helps them get to know what you do.
By cold pitching them you’ll be giving them enough information about you and about your work that it might interest them.
It can even create a need that wasn’t there before because they’re simply too afraid to lose this chance.
We know that enterprises lose a lot of time and money by opening job postings and by interviewing a bunch of people to finally find the right one.
So if you cold-pitch them you’ll make the process much easier and save them time, effort and money.
If you’re wondering how to do this?
Then you’ll have to create a killer pitch that will define who you are and what you do briefly and in a convincing way.
You’ll have to know everything about the enterprise to pick their interest and let them know you did your research.
And this way you’ll be able to land the job you want.
Networking is simply the idea of building and enlarging your relationships with others and creating new contacts.
And I know that a lot of freelancers out there HATE this.
And I honestly don’t know why.
Maybe it’s because of being an introvert?
But you guys need to understand, that being an introvert won’t get you far in freelancing.
You need to be brave enough to make new acquaintances.
Why? Because you’ll be able to connect with other people who most likely have the same mindset as you.
If that’s the case then you probably share the same goals and motivations as well.
This will help you land clients more quickly by simply being referred to by your network.
And I honestly think that Networking is underrated a lot. It’s not even the topic of many freelancing bogs out there while it should be.
I’ve landed so many other jobs just because of networking. A friend knows a friend who knows a friend that would be interested in my services.
And that’s how it happens.
How networking will help you:
- Find where to guest post
- Help you connect with like-minded people
- Find potential clients
- Grow your online presence
- Grow your brand
A client reaching out to you because of referrals is the best way to land a job.
Not only will this job offer be trustworthy but it’ll also be high-paying.
The client will be friendly because of the friend in common you have, and you’ll enjoy your work more than ever with the client.
Your writer website
Your professional website whether you’re a writer or a developer or a translator is very important for your business. How is that possible you ask?
Well, simply because this website is your online portfolio. It has information about you, and it has all the work you do. So why wouldn’t it land you jobs?
All you have to do is create a website of your services, create a great template, and everything related to that and start promoting your services.
An example of my favorite professional writer website is of Elna Cain, take a look and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
By just looking at it you can already tell the niche she’s targeting and the type of writing she offers.
She lists her services; give some pieces of information about her life and most importantly has an online portfolio of her work.
This way anyone who visits this website will be able to know who they’re working with, what they’re doing and what they’re capable of in term of “writing, developing, drawing …etc.”
If your website speaks millions of word about you then you’ll certainly land high-paying jobs in no time.
Social media platforms
You might think that social media platforms are only for sharing cute pictures and memes.
But they’re not for that only.
If you’re smart enough then you’ll know that thousands or even millions of people land jobs just from these platforms.
First of all start by creating an optimized profile that says everything about you and your services.
Join groups or group discussions where there are a lot of like-minded people.
Promote your services wisely and don’t be spammy.
Visit hashtags on these platforms that are job-related to see if there’s anything interesting that suits you.
And finally cold-pitch on these platforms. And that’s how you’ll be able to land high-paying jobs.
What do you guys think? Have I left out any information?
